  15.      The WD1003V-SR1 controller is designed to interface with up to two 
  16.      Winchester hard disk drives with 2,7 RLL specifications in an IBM PC 
  17.      AT or compatible system and will support drives with up to 16 
  18.      read/write heads and 2048 cylinders.  Each drive may be a different 
  19.      configuration.  
  20.      
  21.      The WD1003V-SR2 also supports up to two floppy disk drives including 
  22.      360 KB, 720 KB, 1.2 Megabyte, and 1.44 Megabyte drives (5-1/4 inch or 
  23.      3-1/2 inch).  The WD1003V-SR2 also supports "intelligent" 1.44 
  24.      Megabyte media drives.  These intelligent drives obtain the drive 
  25.      type and data rate from the drive's media and do not depend upon the 
  26.      state of J1 pin 2 for this information.  
  27.      
  28.      Installation of the controller requires three steps:  1) verifying 
  29.      jumper settings; 2) installing into the host computer; 3) formatting 
  30.      the hard disk drives.  To complete installation, you will need the 
  31.      following:

  33.                     DO NOT USE WITH MFM TYPE HARD DISK DRIVES
  34.      
  35.        THE WD1003V-SR1 AND WD1003V-SR2 ARE TO BE USED WITH RLL DRIVES ONLY
  36.      
  37.      Two hard disk cables (3 if using 2 hard disk drives); Winchester RLL 
  38.      hard disk drive; screwdriver; MSDOS Version 2.0 or later; IBM 
  39.      Advanced Diagnostic diskette (or similar program for IBM 
  40.      compatibles); FDISK and Format utility (normally included with 
  41.      MSDOS).

  46.                  HANDLE THE CONTROLLER BY THE ENDS OF THE BOARD
  47.                 SOME OF THE CHIPS ARE STATIC SENSITIVE AND DAMAGE
  48.                   MAY OCCUR IF THE BOARD IS INCORRECTLY HANDLED
  49.      
  50.      Before you can install your WD1003V-SR1 or SR2, you will need to be 
  51.      certain that the jumpers (small shorting plugs) are correctly set.  
  52.      Refer to Table 1 for correct jumper settings.  Modification of 
  53.      factory jumper settings is rarely necessary.  Modify jumpers only 
  54.      under the direction of a qualified individual; i.e. your dealer.

  139.                               Hardware Installation

  142.                         MAKE SURE COMPUTER IS TURNED OFF
  143.                             AND POWER IS DISCONNECTED
  144.      
  145.      1.  Verify that your host computer has a 135 watt power supply.  If 
  146.      the disk drive(s) is(are) being installed internally, it is best to 
  147.      locate the controller in the nearest available expansion slot to the 
  148.      drive.
  149.      
  150.      2.  Remove the blank expansion slot bracket.  Put the bracket away 
  151.      and save it for possible future use.  The screw will be used to hold 
  152.      the new controller in place.
  153.      
  154.      3.  The terminating resistor must be present only on the last hard 
  155.      disk drive connected.  If there are two drives, the terminating 
  156.      resistor must be present on the second drive.  Verify proper setting 
  157.      of drive select switches for drive select 1 or 2. Refer to your 
  158.      system owner's manual for information about proper drive termination 
  159.      and select switches.  DO NOT USE RADIAL SELECT OPTION.

  161.      NOTE:  IF USING THE WD1003V-SR2 WITH BUILT IN FLOPPY CONTROLLER...
  162.      
  163.      DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE WITH ANY OTHER FLOPPY CONTROLLER.  IT IS NOT 
  164.      POSSIBLE TO DISABLE THE FLOPPY CONTROLLER ON THE WD1003V-SR2.

  166.      4.  Attach 34-pin control connector to J5 on the controller board.  
  167.      Make sure that Pin 1 of the cable connector goes to Pin 1 on the 
  168.      controller board.  Pin 1 of the cable connector is typically located 
  169.      on the color coded side of the cable.

  171.      5.   Connect control cable to drive.
  172.      
  173.      6.   Attach 20-pin data connector to J4 (Drive C or 0).
  174.      
  175.      7.   Attach 20-pin data connector to J3 (Drive D or 1).

  209.      12.  Install controller board into the expansion slot. Make sure that 
  210.      the board is seated properly by pressing down on both ends of the 
  211.      board.  Secure the board with the bracket screw.

  213.                                      CAUTION
  214.                   WHEN ROUTING CABLES, BE CAREFUL NOT TO PINCH
  215.                   THEM.  CABLES MUST NOT GET CAUGHT BETWEEN THE
  216.                  COVER AND THE BOARDS, NOR SHOULD THEY OBSTRUCT
  217.                       ANY AIR FLOW PATH FROM FANS OR VENTS.
